I’ve done this before. I’ve already went through the hassle of setting up our PLDT DSL connection through a ZyXel P600 modem and Linksys WRT54GL router. I’ve went through it twice, once for a PPPOE (Legacy) connection and another for a non-PPPOE. But for some strange reason, I again slaved for quite a number of hours just to reset the ZyXel modem. JUST RESET!

The PLDT guy changed our modem this morning. By default, the modem was on Bridged mode, meaning, the internet can only be used through a single computer. And in this household, that wouldn’t do. I knew that the set-up would simply go like this: change the ZyXel P600 modem to act in Routing mode and be the DHCP server and change the Linksys WRT54GL to act as the switch.

I was already frustrated to my many unsuccessful tries on resetting the ZyXel modem. I was already sold to the idea that PLDT has already rigged our modem to be un-resettable. I just couldn’t see that dropdown menu on the lefthand page!

I was already fuming when the modem’s login screen went up again, prompting for just the password. I don’t know why I did it but instead of entering the default password (1234), I entered the username(admin). And lo and behold! A new screen now prompted me to enter a new password. Finally! The reset that I was waiting for! After that, setting up both the modem and router to work in harmony was a breeze.

With that event to fill up my night, I think I can only afford to finish these pending downloads. Still no Android development for me tonight though.
