The project is using DWR for adding ajax easily. I’ve always been facinated with ajax, I don’t really know why. I got to stop myself from not doing this assigned task and try to study how dwr works. Sorry, geek moment. Note to self: study dwr during one of my idle days.

With the monstrous amount of group paperwork we did back in college, I found myself gravitating towards the proper use of styles and formatting. Which proved to be very convenient and useful when it is required and it is time to generate the Table of Contents.

Back then the popular documentation application that we use was, of course, Microsoft Word. In the office place however, I was forced to be acquainted with Open Office Writer which does not necessarily mean a big adjustment from Word but it does have a few quirks here and there that takes me a number of days to figure out.

This time, it took me two whole days. See, I’m documenting all my projects now since I’ll be officially out of the care of this employer in a couple of week’s time. It started to get frustrating when I’m trying to generate the ToC with hyperlinks. I managed to make it work before by doing this:

Around the Structure definition area:

Click on the white space found around specific entry items

Click on Hyperlink button where an LS button will appear

Click on another white space round the end

Click on Hyperlink button again where LE button will appear

Then click on the All button to apply the same structure on the different levels of the ToC hierarchy.

Surprisingly, it wouldn’t work. I tried deleting the ToC again, start over from scratch. Saving and opening the document again and doing over the ToC again and again and again. But it just wouldn’t produce the links that I wanted.

Turns our the quirk came from the numbering of the headings that my ToC generates from.

So I located Tools > Outline Numbering . Under the Numbering Tab, under the first few levels there were no Paragraph Style specified. So I defined it as according to the Heading styles wherein I generate my ToC from.

After doing that, I update my table of contents. And hurrah of hurrah’s, my ToC now appeared as the links that I wanted them to be. Now, its again easier to traverse through my documentation in progress.

It was because of my job interview last Friday that I’ve decided to start doing away with mapping my hibernate metadata on xml and go for Annotations instead. The interviewer suggested it and of course I’m easily convinced once I heard that “it make things easier.”

The great thing about these frameworks is that everything’s utterly comprehensive and modular. You just need to identify one specific thing that you’d want to integrate and just work on it bit by bit. Learning these web frameworks rattled me in the beginning with its steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, integrating any modules that you can think of gets easier and easier. Also, you can never really run out of online tutorials and resources to guide you through the integration; forums almost always have already discussed the programming issues that you’re encountering, you just need to know how to search for it.

So, right now, I am already working on this long, long running project with some objects already mapped. I picked one object to try to convert from xml mapping to Annotations mapping – Project. Hibernate already have a road map (http://hibernate.org/152.html) defined in case you wanted to learn a specific module.

So firstly, I downloaded Hibernate Annotations and all its dependencies. Then made sure that it’s in my classpath.

Then I changed this

Ever since Angeli said she will be changing her phone to a Nokia E63, I’ve been secretly wanting it too (well, it’s not a secret now…). I am so wanting it because it is available in red and you can wifi. Wow. And, I just want to get a new toy.

Ms Linux Geekette has been considering it too and, unlike me, doing her research on it. She mentioned after lunch break that she’s having doubts on getting an E63 because its running on Symbian and tend to get virus infested.

“Hmm… Symbian,” I thought to myself and decided to google about Symbian Development tonight.

Sigh… Here I go again. I haven’t started on my personal Android projects and now I’m seriously considering developing on Symbian! Of course I’ll go for Java ME first, maybe Symbian C++ later on… Actually… it’s not really a choice between Symbian/JavaME or Android development. For me, I would like to try both! Hahaha Oh anything to keep me busy and amused. I’ll soon have too much time in my hands. Boo…

I stumbled upon an FOSS 3D content creation software last week and here I am fantasizing yet again my dream on becoming an animator. I have dreamed of becoming one when Pixar started coming up with those amazing animation movies. Unfortunately, I lack the knack of being artistic yet fortunately, I think I’m not really hopeless enough that I can bring it out through study and practice.

Oh, FOSS, FOSS, FOSS! I am happy that there are free and open source alternatives to your favorite enterprise applications. And since its open source, you really need not wait for the next release to get that functionality that you deemed so important. Well of course if you are a developer, you could be the one to add the functionality. If not, well, if your idea is truly good, I bet some programmer may have already worked on it; just search and build.
